Seven civilians reportedly killed by Russian shelling in Kherson region

Seven people, including two children, were killed in a shelling attack in Ukraine’s Kherson region on Sunday, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported on Telegram. According to Prokudin, Russian troops shelled the region 83 times, firing nearly 400 shells, including 23 on the city of Kherson. The Ukrainian authorities declared August 14 a day of mourning for the victims.

On the morning of August 13, a five-person family was killed in the village of Shyroka Balka. Two men, one woman, and a baby who was 23 days old died immediately, while a 12-year-old boy (or 11-year-old, according to other reports) died in the hospital shortly after.

In the neighboring village of Stanislav, two men were killed and one woman was injured by shelling. One of the men who died was Mykola Tachishvili, a church pastor. Five residential buildings were destroyed or damaged.

According to the Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne, the following towns and villages also came under attack:

  • Veletens'ke (a 28-year-old man was seriously wounded)
  • Komyshany (a 49-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were wounded)
  • Zolota Balka (a 61-year-old woman was wounded)
  • Kherson (three people were wounded; two are in critical condition)
  • Novokairy (a 61-year-old man was wounded)
  • Bilozerka (two people were wounded)
  • Odradokamianka (multiple homes were destroyed by an airstrike)
