U.S. company ReconCraft to build Ukraine’s Magura sea drones under first-of-its-kind license

The United States will begin licensed production of Ukraine’s Magura sea drones — the first agreement of its kind — The Wall Street Journal reported.

ReconCraft (a company that builds boats for United States special operations forces) will handle production. It plans to deliver several hundred drones a year before ramping up to the thousands. The cost of the deal was not specified.

Under the agreement, Uforce (the Ukrainian company that created the drones) will also give its American partners access to its software and control technology.

Magura is an unmanned boat capable of launching aerial drones, clearing mines, and detecting underwater targets. A single unit can cost up to $500,000. Ukrainian intelligence has reported that Magura drones helped down helicopters and sink Russian military ships.

Ukraine has recently stepped up technology exchanges with Western allies, including the United States. In early July, President Donald Trump promised to license Ukraine to produce missiles for Patriot systems.
