A military court in Moscow convicted two Ukrainian soldiers of committing acts of terrorism in Russia’s Kursk region. Vitalii Panchenko and Ivan Dmytrakov were sentenced to 14 and 15 years, respectively, for allegedly “shooting to kill” at both Russian soldiers and civilians, forcibly transferring Russian civilians to Ukraine, and looting a grocery store. Panchenko and Dmytrakov were captured as part of the incursion force Ukraine sent into the Kursk region in August.

Last month, Reuters reported that Ukraine had lost 40 percent of the territory it seized this summer in its surprise Kursk offensive. BBC News later reported that Ukrainian occupation forces are under orders to hold as much of the territory as possible until U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, when he’s expected to spearhead a ceasefire initiative.
