Russian authorities roll out electronic military summonses in some regions

Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Russia’s State Duma Defense Committee, says draft summonses for citizens in the military reserves will arrive electronically in a number of Russian regions.

“Generally, summonses will arrive in the same way as before, because many places lack the technical capabilities to distribute summonses electronically,” Kartapolov explained, adding that in parts of the country where it is possible, summonses will arrive electronically “in addition to the traditional way.”

Kartapolov also noted that the system for electronic military registration will be in the works until 2025. Meanwhile, the system will be debugged, including during draft campaigns.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law authorizing a digital register enabling electronic military summons on April 14. Kartapolov later said the law would not apply to the spring conscription campaign currently underway in Russia, but the Russian authorities then announced that they’d test electronic summonses this year through the new State Services online platform.
