Putin attended Christmas services alone in the Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended Christmas services at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in the Kremlin, during the evening of January 7. Interfax reports that Putin attended alone, without other parishioners. Several high-ranking members of the Russian Orthodox clergy met Putin and attended the service. Putin also celebrated Christmas alone in January 2022, in a church on the grounds of his estate at Novo-Ogaryovo. Last year, the Kremlin explained that the president was taking “epidemic precautions.” In previous years, including 2019, 2020, and 2021 Putin has attended Christmas services with other people. The Russian president has stayed in Moscow for Christmas twice before, in 2000 and 2001, says Interfax.
