Source: Meduza
Alexey Navalny has been sentenced to an additional nine years behind bars after a Moscow court found him guilty on new charges of fraud and contempt of court on Tuesday, March 22. The Kremlin critic’s trial took place offsite, inside the prison colony where he is already serving more than 2.5 years for allegedly violating parole while in recovery abroad after an attempt on his life in August 2020. Navalny’s extended sentence is to be served in a maximum security prison. The court also fined him 1.2 million rubles (about $11,500). State prosecutors had requested a 13-year prison sentence for Navalny, along with the 1.2-million ruble fine.
