Near the “Pushkinskaya” subway station in Minsk, more than 5,000 people came to say farewell to Alexander Taraikovsky, who died on August 10 as riot police violently dispersed an opposition protest using clubs, concussion grenades, water cannons, and tear gas. The Interior Ministry says Taraikovsky died when an explosive he was trying to hurl at police officers detonated in his hands, but the man’s family and friends say he was shot.
