St. Petersburg cuts military enlistment bonus to 400,000 rubles in second reduction in a month

St. Petersburg authorities have cut the city-funded one-time payment for people who sign contracts with the Defense Ministry to 400,000 rubles, Fontanka reported.

Journalists were given that figure at several military service information centers and through the general hotline.

“It’s 400 [thousand] from the city, 400 thousand from the Defense Ministry. There’s a chance of another 600 thousand [if you sign up as a drone operator], but I can’t guarantee that yet. You’ll speak with the person who actually handles the paperwork. He has the latest information as of today… And he’ll be able to tell you for sure. The information we’re given changes from one day to the next,” staff in Primorsky District said.

Staff answering the hotline listed on the city administration’s website said the one-time payment was 800,000 rubles.

On October 16, news emerged that St. Petersburg authorities had sharply cut the city-funded one-time payment for signing a contract with the Defense Ministry — from 3.5 million to 1 million rubles. Updated information on the city administration’s website lists an exception for contracts to join the drone forces: The payment for those remains unchanged at 3.5 million rubles.

As early as October 6, Rotonda and Fontanka reported that advertisements listing the old payment amounts had begun disappearing from municipal websites and city streets.
