More than 600 drones flew toward Moscow, mayor says, as three airports restricted flights
A total of 613 drones flew toward the Moscow region from the evening of October 28 to the morning of October 29, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
Air defense forces “neutralized” most of the drones at “distant approaches,” he said. They destroyed another 231 as the drones approached Moscow. No information has been reported about the attack’s aftermath or any casualties.
Rosaviatsia imposed flight restrictions at three Moscow airports (Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky) around 5 a.m. Moscow time. The restrictions were lifted two hours later.
The Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing a source, that two planes flying from Turkey to Moscow turned back because of the restrictions at Vnukovo.
Ukrainian monitoring channels say Sterlitamak also came under attack overnight on October 29 and have published footage of the strike. The independent Telegram channel Astra examined the images and says smoke is rising over the Bashkir Soda Company. The company was already attacked in August, Astra said.
Sterlitamak administration head Emil Shaimardanov said air defense forces shot down eight drones, debris from which fell onto the grounds of one of the enterprises. Shaimardanov said “minor damage was caused” and that the plant “is operating normally.”
