Ukrainian drones strike Ryazan oil refinery, prompting school and kindergarten closures across the city

Source: Pavel Malkov

Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said Ukrainian drones struck the region’s oil refinery, sparking a fire. A warehouse and vehicles were damaged at another facility in Ryazan, he added. Malkov did not report any casualties.

The Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+ published a photo early in the morning showing a flare over the Ryazan refinery, suggesting it was linked to the drone attack.

The drone attack also forced authorities to cancel classes and kindergarten attendance on October 15 in Ryazan’s Oktyabrsky district and part of the Sovetsky district. Malkov’s post said 14 schools and 25 kindergartens were affected.

The previous evening, Malkov said 23 drones had been shot down over the region in the past 24 hours. No casualties or damage were reported, he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in an interview with the Financial Times that Ukraine’s military is resuming strikes on Russian oil refineries. He said Ukraine had not attacked Russian energy facilities for three days, in keeping with a request from the United States, but that Russia had continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
