European Union foreign ministers approved a 22nd package of sanctions against Russia, adding about 1,600 legal entities and individuals to the sanctions list.
It’s the largest single expansion of the sanctions list since the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine began, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.
More than half of the new individuals and entities on the list are tied to the production of ballistic missiles, she said. “We are making it significantly harder, slower and more expensive for Russia to produce the weapons it uses to kill Ukrainians,” she added.
The investigative project Systema earlier reported that organizations in Russia’s military-industrial complex, along with their executives and employees, would face sanctions under the 22nd package. For some of these organizations, the sanctions are not being introduced for the first time, but are being expanded.
