Witkoff and Kushner have ‘new ideas’ to end Russia’s war in Ukraine and plan to visit Moscow this month, Axios reports
U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are pushing “new ideas and proposals” to end Russia’s war with Ukraine, Axios reported. They plan to present the proposals to the Ukrainian delegation during talks in the United States on October 9, American and Ukrainian sources told the outlet.
Witkoff and Kushner also plan to travel to Russia before the end of the month to discuss the “new ideas” with Russian leadership, according to Axios.
The two envoys already presented the new proposals to U.S. President Donald Trump at a White House meeting on October 8. Attendees included the head of the U.S. Treasury Department, national security advisers from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as well as representatives of NATO and the European Union.
The outlet’s sources did not provide details about the “new proposals.”
Witkoff and Kushner last visited Moscow on September 5, then traveled to Kyiv for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in early October that there are currently no prospects for a peaceful resolution to Russia’s war with Ukraine, describing the situation as a “strategic stalemate.” The Kremlin also said there are no grounds for such a development at this time. Zelensky, for his part, said the United States is not doing enough to force Russian authorities to the negotiating table.
