Black smoke rises over Russia’s largest oil refinery following a Ukrainian drone strike
Ukrainian drones struck the Omsk oil refinery. Astra reported that a column of black smoke rose above the plant.
Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko said the region had come under drone attack. He gave no details beyond saying that one drone “reached the northern industrial hub.”
The Ukrainian military’s General Staff confirmed the strike on the refinery.
The Omsk oil refinery is Russia’s largest by the volume of crude oil it processes. It is 2,500 kilometers (about 1,550 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
Ukrainian drones have attacked the refinery before, most recently on July 6, when the plant temporarily halted operations. Sources told Reuters that one of its crude distillation units, which accounted for 38% of the plant’s capacity, had been damaged.
