EU ambassadors agree to largest-ever expansion of Russia sanctions list, targeting more than 1,500 people and organizations
EU ambassadors have agreed to add more than 1,500 individuals and organizations to the bloc’s Russia sanctions list, Euronews reported.
The additions will include 743 people and 826 organizations that the EU believes support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The investigative project Sistema previously reported that the sanctions would target defense industry organizations, their executives, and their employees. For some organizations, the EU will expand existing sanctions.
According to Sistema, all the organizations on the new sanctions list appear on a nonpublic list of defense enterprises compiled by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and published by the Dossier Center in 2025.
EU foreign ministers are expected to formally approve the new sanctions list at a meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, October 12.
