Russia charged children’s hospice founder Lida Moniava with spreading ‘fake news’ about the military over an anti-war post. Investigators now say she committed no crime.

The felony case against Lida Moniava, founder of the Lighthouse Charity Foundation hospice, has been abandoned after officials determined that her actions do not constitute a crime.

An investigator told Moniava’s lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov, that the case had been dropped, according to her support group’s Telegram channel.

Moniava was investigated under a law banning the spread of “fake news” about the Russian army. The case stemmed from a post on her Telegram channel in February 2023.

Moniava was detained on September 2. The next day, a court imposed pretrial restrictions barring her from certain activities.
