At the first plenary session of the ninth State Duma, lawmakers elected Vyacheslav Volodin to a third consecutive term as speaker.
United Russia nominated Volodin for the post. Of the 442 lawmakers, 406 voted in favor.
Volodin has served as speaker since 2016, leading the seventh and eighth State Dumas. In the most recent election, he won a Duma seat in the single-member Saratov electoral district.
Volodin became the first State Duma speaker to lead the lower house of parliament for more than two consecutive terms.
