After Ukraine’s overnight attack, Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery — one of southern Russia’s biggest fuel suppliers — halts operations
The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region halted operations after an attack by Ukrainian drones, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar said.
No one was injured, though the refinery sustained damage. Russian air defenses shot down about 50 drones over the Rostov region overnight, the governor said.
The refinery is the only one in the Rostov region and one of the largest fuel suppliers in southern Russia, with a capacity of about 5.6 million tons per year. A year ago, the business magazine Forbes Russia included the plant on its list of Russia’s largest investor companies.
Ukraine last targeted the Novoshakhtinsk refinery in August, striking it twice, on August 21 and 25. Firefighters could not extinguish the resulting fire for several days after the first attack.
In total, Russian air defenses shot down 592 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russia and occupied Crimea. The attacks also struck Perm Krai and the Ulyanovsk and Voronezh regions. In Perm, the attack sparked a fire at the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez (PNOS) refinery. One person was killed.
In Ulyanovsk, drones damaged civilian and industrial infrastructure. Eight people were injured, including a child. In Voronezh, the Voronezhsintezkauchuk plant, a producer of thermoplastic elastomers and synthetic rubbers, came under attack, the independent Telegram channel Astra reported. Thirteen people were injured, including one child.
