Kremlin welcomes U.S. invitation for Putin to attend December G20 summit in Miami
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin welcomed the U.S. decision to invite Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami.
“We’ve heard about the invitation. We’re grateful to the U.S. for the invitation, and we welcome it. We’ll make a decision, and then we’ll work out the details through diplomatic channels,” Peskov told Interfax.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sept. 23 that Washington had invited Putin to the G20 summit, scheduled for Dec. 14-15 in Miami. He said it would be an opportunity for Putin “to engage not only with the [U.S.] president but also with world leaders.”
Earlier, Bloomberg cited sources who said Putin planned to travel to China for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit but would skip the G20 summit.
