Putin-backed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov wins reelection with a record 99.85% of the vote

Ramzan Kadyrov won 99.85% of the vote in the election for head of Chechnya, with all precincts counted, according to Central Election Commission data cited by TASS.

According to official results, Kadyrov won 94.8% of the vote in 2016 and 99.7% in 2021.

Two other candidates ran against him this year: A Just Russia’s Ismail Denilkhanov, chairman of Chechnya’s Public Chamber, and the Communist Party’s Khalid Nakaev, a member of Chechnya’s parliament. Each received 0.05% of the vote.

Seven other regions also held gubernatorial elections, and the incumbents are leading in all of them. Artyom Zdunov is winning in Mordovia with 78.74% of the vote, Vladislav Khovalyg in Tuva with 90.95%, Alexander Shuvaev in the Belgorod region with 65.97%, Yegor Kovalchuk in the Bryansk region with 68.03%, Vitaly Korolev in the Tver region with 69.8%, Oleg Melnichenko in the Penza region with 70.92%, and Alexey Russkikh in the Ulyanovsk region with 76.65%.
