French President Emmanuel Macron said he has ordered his government to draw up a plan to protect critical infrastructure — including defense industry sites — from drone attacks and cyberattacks as Russia’s hybrid threat grows.
“In recent weeks, the threat — particularly the Russian hybrid threat — facing Europeans and France has intensified,” Macron told reporters at the Élysée Palace after meeting with the leaders of France’s political parties.
Such attacks would not go unanswered, he said. Macron also accused Russia of trying to intimidate European countries and weaken support for Ukraine.
A day earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told parliament that Russia is planning “hybrid” strikes with missiles and drones against countries that support Ukraine. “These potential strikes would be quote-unquote ‘accidental’ in nature, intended to paralyze or at least weaken the resolve of NATO states to invoke the relevant NATO provisions in the event of aggression against a member country,” he said.
