Russia places Zhanna Nemtsova, daughter of murdered politician Boris Nemtsov, on its international wanted list
Russia has placed Zhanna Nemtsova — the daughter of politician Boris Nemtsov and founder of his namesake foundation — on its international wanted list.
On September 17, the Moscow City Court upheld a ruling ordering Nemtsova’s arrest in absentia in a case concerning “organizing the activities of an undesirable organization” under Part 3 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code, according to TASS.
“The lower court’s ruling was left unchanged, and Nemtsova’s defense appeals were denied,” a court representative told the state news agency. The Moscow City Court did not specify which organization the case involved.
Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky District Court ordered Nemtsova’s arrest in absentia on July 31.
Nemtsova founded the Germany-based Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom. In 2024, Russia designated the foundation an “undesirable organization.”
In a Facebook post about the decision to arrest her in absentia, Nemtsova said the case was connected to the foundation named after her father, who was murdered in Moscow on February 27, 2015. She left Russia after his murder.
