In early August, the Wildberries online marketplace invited bids to supply galvanized steel mesh for its logistics centers in eight Russian regions, The Bell reported.
The tender did not specify how the mesh would be used, but a source at an industrial company told The Bell it might be intended to protect warehouses from drone attacks.
“Surrounding the entire site with a metal fence is still the most popular option because it is fairly effective, involves no risks, and is not subject to any regulatory requirements — other than building regulations, that is,” he said.
Wildberries plans to buy 478,000 square meters of mesh — enough to cover 67 soccer fields, according to The Bell.
So far, contractors have submitted bids in only three of the eight regions, quoting prices ranging from 154 to 474 rubles per square meter. Based on those bids, The Bell calculated that the full purchase could cost Wildberries between 73.6 million and 226.5 million rubles.
