Production designer of a Russian TV series arrested on treason charges. He lived in Kyiv and came to Russia to renew his passport.
Russian authorities have accused Alexander Kondratov, the 52-year-old production designer of the TV series Likvidatsiya “Liquidation,” of treason, the independent Russian news outlet Mediazona reported.
Investigators opened the case on August 5. Kondratov’s defense attorney, Natalia Tikhonova, told reporters that investigators viewed “at least six publications” he posted online as constituting treason. It was not specified what they contained.
Kondratov, who was born and raised in Moscow, has lived in Kyiv since 2012, where his family remains. He had traveled to Russia to renew his international passport, the human rights group Memorial wrote. He was detained at Vnukovo Airport on May 5. Before he was charged with treason, Kondratov was subjected to so-called “carousel arrests,” and in total spent more than 70 days in a pretrial detention center.
The detective series Likvidatsiya “Liquidation” premiered in 2007, following criminal investigators fighting crime in postwar Odesa in 1946. Its cast included Vladimir Mashkov, Mikhail Porechenkov, Sergei Makovetsky, and Konstantin Lavronenko. Kondratov’s work on the series earned him the Golden Eagle Award and a TEFI Award.
