Man in Russia’s Dagestan shoots ex-wife and daughter dead at cafe where they worked, says they ‘disgraced the family’

The Dagestan branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against a local resident over a double murder at a cafe in Khasavyurt.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, fired several shots at two women over what investigators called “sudden personal hostility.” One woman died at the scene. The other died later in the hospital from her wounds.

The Telegram channel “112,” which has ties to security officials, reports that the gunman was Aliaskhab, a 46-year-old Dagestan resident who killed his ex-wife and their 23-year-old daughter, who worked at the cafe. He believed the women had “disgraced the family,” and allegedly had insisted that his ex-wife quit her job and devote herself to raising their five minor children.

A quarrel broke out between the former spouses, and the man drew a gun. When the woman tried to run, he shot her several times in the back, then turned the gun on their daughter, who had tried to help her mother.

Baza, a Russian security services-linked Telegram channel, reports that the conflict stemmed from a dispute over visitation arrangements for the couple’s children after their divorce. The man has been detained, and a criminal case has been opened against him under Part 2 of Article 105 of Russia’s Criminal Code, over the murder of two people.
