Russian drone damages ‘We Are Ukraine’ TV newsroom in Kyiv during live broadcast of Ukraine’s joint United News program
A Russian drone damaged the building of the television channel We Are Ukraine during the September 8 attack on Kyiv.
The strike hit the newsroom and staff offices, causing injuries, the channel said. The drone hit the building while the channel was airing United News, a round-the-clock news broadcast that Ukrainian media outlets have produced since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said five people were injured in the drone strike on the channel’s building. “Using Shahed drones against the media marks a new chapter in Russia’s moral decline, and Europe and the world must respond,” Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Russian strikes on Kyiv had previously damaged the channel’s building. On August 20, the channel said that an overnight attack on Kyiv had damaged its newsroom. No one was injured in that attack.
United News began broadcasting on February 24, 2022 — the day Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As of August 2026, several Ukrainian television channels, including We Are Ukraine, were taking turns producing programming for the round-the-clock broadcast.
