Ukrainian military reportedly ordered to hold fire from September 5 to 8 as Witkoff and Kushner visit Moscow
Units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been ordered to hold fire along the front from midnight on September 5 until 11:59 p.m. on September 8, the Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing sources in several brigades operating in different sectors of the front and a senior source in Ukraine’s security establishment.
Ukrainian authorities have not officially announced the order.
On the evening of September 4, Volodymyr Zelensky promised that Ukraine would ensure the “normal functioning of Russian airspace” during a visit to Moscow by U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He said Russia, too, should halt airstrikes during talks between Kyiv and Washington. Moscow has not commented on the proposal.
“As we did during previous diplomatic visits by U.S. officials, we will ensure the normal functioning of Russian airspace so that the negotiators can arrive safely. It’s them we care about, not Russia. We will not carry out any airstrikes,” Zelensky said.
Witkoff and Kushner are expected in Moscow on September 5 and in Kyiv the following day.
