Russian rock musician found dead in St. Petersburg pond with one hand severed, local media report
A man’s body, missing a hand, was found on Vasilyevsky Island in St. Petersburg. According to the St. Petersburg-based news outlet Fontanka and the Russian security services-linked Telegram channel Baza, the man was identified as Dmitry Oganyan, 45, the former bassist of rock band Kukryniksy. Oganyan was also known by the nickname “Vagon.”
Fontanka reported that the body was found in a pond near Michmanskaya Street, with a severed hand and an ax lying nearby on the shore.
Baza reported that Oganyan appears to have inflicted the wound on himself with the ax, then removed his shoes, undressed, and walked into the water on his own.
Law enforcement agencies have not officially confirmed that the deceased is Dmitry Oganyan.
Kukryniks” is a St. Petersburg band founded in 1997 by Alexey Gorshenev, the younger brother of Mikhail Gorshenev, frontman of Korol i Shut (“The King and the Jester”). Dmitry Oganyan joined the band in 2001.
