NATO fighter jets shoot down drone over Latvia; Ukrainian attack sparks fire at a major Russian Baltic Sea port
A Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at the Ust-Luga port in Russia’s Leningrad region, the region’s governor, Alexander Drozdenko, said.
Ust-Luga is Russia’s second-largest port after Novorossiysk and the largest on the Baltic Sea — one of the five largest ports in Europe.
Drozdenko later said the fire had been extinguished and that there were no casualties, adding that 54 drones were shot down over the region during the attack.
More than 10 additional drones were headed toward Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said He claimed that they were shot down, with no damage or casualties reported.
Ukrainian drones also struck the Tver region, where “drone debris” damaged the wall of a Wildberries warehouse in the Kalininsky District, according to the region’s acting governor, Vitaly Korolev. He said no employees were injured.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that air defense units had shot down 553 Ukrainian drones overnight over 18 Russian regions and Crimea.
