Poland detains Russian man suspected of plotting to murder a dual U.S.-Ukrainian citizen
Polish authorities have detained a Russian citizen recruited by Russian intelligence services on suspicion of plotting a murder. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that suspect was taken into custody on August 7 in an operation involving Polish and American intelligence services.
According to Tusk, the detainee had been planning to kill a man who holds passports from Ukraine and the United States. “This person holds two passports. He was inconvenient from the standpoint of Vladimir Putin’s regime. Thanks to a brilliantly executed operation, it was possible to prevent this murder,” Tusk said. Authorities have not disclosed the names of the detainee or his potential victim.
He added that “this is the first time someone from Russia has decided to attack a U.S. citizen in another NATO country.”
