Head of Russian drone company reportedly shot in assassination attempt
A gunman tried to shoot a businessman in the stairwell of an apartment building in Tula, the regional branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee reported.
The attack took place on July 29 at a building on Mikheyev Street, and the businessman was hospitalized.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of attempted murder. The Investigative Committee stated that those involved in the attack are being “identified” but did not provide any details about the injured businessman.
Telegram channels close to Russian security officials, Mash and “112”, reported that the target was Andrey Cherezov, head of the company Russian Air Transport Laboratory. The attack happened at night as Cherezov was returning home: a gunman was waiting for him in the stairwell and shot him three times on the landing. Cherezov’s wife, who heard the shots, called an ambulance.
Public records show that Cherezov’s company was founded in 2022. According to Mash, the company recently received orders to supply unmanned aircraft systems to Voronezh State Technical University for research purposes. It remains unclear whether the company has any connection to military activities.
