Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Maj. Gen. Ihor Skybiuk as chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Skybiuk succeeds Andrii Hnatov, who had led the General Staff since March 2025. The appointment follows Zelensky’s dismissal of Oleksandr Syrskyi as commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with Mykhailo Drapatyi taking his place.
A Hero of Ukraine and former commander of the Air Assault Forces, Skybiuk had been serving as deputy chief of the General Staff before his promotion.
“Skybiuk is a highly experienced military officer who fought side by side with the new commander-in-chief in defense of Ukraine. It’s important that every part of our armed forces continues to operate in complete coordination,” Zelensky said, explaining the appointment.
