Delay the new ‘Spider-Man’ or we’ll rethink our terms: Russian distributor leans on theaters to clear the way for a homegrown fairy-tale sequel

Source: Cinemaplex

The distributor Atmosfera Kino has sent movie theaters a letter recommending that they push back the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to late August. The distributor undertook the initiative jointly with the Association of Movie Theater Owners, according to the Russian outlet Cinemaplex.

In a separate letter, Atmosfera Kino urged theaters to concentrate on the successful theatrical release of the Russian film The Last Warrior: Kolobok, Cinemaplex reported.

Atmosfera Kino threatened to revisit its terms of cooperation with theaters if they refuse to delay the Spider-Man release.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres worldwide on July 29. Because of the war, movie theaters in Russia show Western films without the rights holders’ consent and without a distribution certificate.

The Last Warrior: Kolobok is scheduled to premiere on August 6.
