For the third time this year, a Ukrainian drone strike shuts down Rosneft’s Saratov oil refinery

The Saratov oil refinery, owned by Rosneft, has halted processing after a Ukrainian drone attack, Reuters reported, citing two sources.

The drones struck the CDU-6 primary oil distillation unit, which has a capacity of 20,000 tons per day and is the only such unit at the facility, according to the agency.

The refinery had already suspended operations twice after earlier drone attacks — in March and May, Reuters said.

The day before, Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said one person was killed and several others were wounded in the overnight attack on July 8, and that “civilian infrastructure facilities” had been damaged. He did not specify which facilities.

In 2024, the Saratov refinery processed 5.8 million tons of oil, accounting for 2.2% of Russia’s total oil refining output at the time, Reuters said.
