Russia’s three biggest online marketplaces ban fuel sales

Avito, Ozon, and Wildberries banned fuel sales on their platforms at the request of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing a statement from the antimonopoly service.

Avito hid its fuel listings, the FAS said. On Ozon and Wildberries, the service said, fuel sales were banned, and any attempts to list fuel for sale were blocked at the moderation stage before the listings went live.

The FAS said it took the measures to “prevent speculative resale of fuel.”

Avito’s press service had announced that the platform would remove all gasoline listings “to prevent speculation on essential goods.” RBC, a Russian business news outlet, reported that at the time of that announcement, Avito had more than 600 private listings for gasoline sales.

According to The Bell, an independent Russian news outlet, fuel purchase limits for private vehicles were in place in 53 Russian regions — as well as in Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia — as of June 16, 2026. In 18 of those regions, drivers could purchase no more than 50 liters, or one full tank, of gasoline. The Bell reported shortages at many gas stations in 11 other regions, though no volume caps had been imposed in those regions.

Russia’s fuel crisis began in late May amid a surge in Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries and fuel depots.
