A college student in Nizhny Tagil has been charged with promoting Nazi symbols after ordering a pizza under the name “Adolf Hitler,” the regional Interior Ministry directorate told RIA Novosti. He was detained.
The case began with a tip from Alexei Svalov, a member of the Sverdlovsk regional legislative assembly. On June 15, Svalov wrote on his Telegram channel that a young man had placed an order at the Dodo Pizza restaurant in the Depo shopping center using the name “Adolf Hitler.”
“All of this happened in front of my friend, a veteran of the SVO. I can’t imagine how he held himself back from smashing the guy’s face into the table, but I think this is a very concrete case for you [law enforcement]. The young man made no attempt to hide. When asked ‘What do you think you’re doing?’ he answered: ‘I’m against the war, I don’t support it, this is my position,’” Svalov wrote.
The detainee was identified as Timofey, a student at a construction college studying to be an electrician.
Officers detained him at the college, where he immediately expressed remorse, the Interior Ministry stated, describing him as “barely holding back tears” and saying he “apologized to everyone who was hurt by his actions.”
“The hapless student said he is not a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer,” an Interior Ministry spokesperson added.
The administrative offense of promoting Nazi symbols carries a penalty of up to 15 days’ arrest, a fine, or community service.
