Vadim Pokrovsky, academic who led Russia’s fight against AIDS, dies at 71
Vadim Pokrovsky, a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences who spent his career fighting AIDS, has died at 71.
Pokrovsky had led a specialized research laboratory focused on the epidemiology and prevention of AIDS since the late 1980s. “He stood at forefront of the fight against HIV infection in our country, working with the first cases and outbreaks of the disease,” the Russian federal consumer rights and public health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said in an obituary.
