Russian forces kill 13 across Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro in overnight missile and drone attack

Russian forces struck Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight on April 16 in a massive attack.

Four people were killed and 48 others injured in Kyiv, the State Emergency Service reported. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said one of the dead was a 12-year-old boy. Twenty-six of the injured were hospitalized; the rest were treated at the scene.

Fires and structural damage were recorded across the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnyanskyi districts of Kyiv. In the Obolonskyi district, 2 people were killed and 6 others injured after the attack ignited parked cars and damaged a warehouse, a tire shop, and a store, the State Emergency Service said. Two more victims — including the 12-year-old — were found under the rubble of a collapsed building facade in the Podilskyi district, where falling rocket debris set a two-story residential building on fire, Klitschko said.

Odesa was also hit by Russian missiles and drones. Six people were killed and 11 others injured, Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa city military administration, reported, adding that infrastructure facilities and a residential building were damaged. Oleh Kiper, head of the regional military administration, put the death toll at 7 and said port, critical, and residential infrastructure across the city had been damaged.

Dnipro was also struck. Office and administrative buildings, residential homes, businesses, and vehicles were damaged in the city. Two people were killed and 30 others injured, Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, reported.

Russian forces fired 44 missiles and 659 drones of various types at Ukraine, the Air Force said. Air defense systems shot down 31 missiles and 636 drones. Twelve missiles and 20 strike drones hit 26 locations, and debris fell on 25 more, the Air Force said.
