Ukrainian drones damage oil pipeline near Russian port and spark fire at refinery

Source: Alexander Drozdenko

Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Leningrad and Nizhny Novgorod regions overnight on April 5, regional governors reported. Air defenses shot down 19 drones over the Leningrad region, Governor Alexander Drozdenko said. Debris from the drones damaged a section of an oil pipeline near the port of Primorsk, he added, with no injuries reported. “Safe burnoff from the shut-off pipe is underway,” he said.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, air defenses shot down 30 drones over an industrial zone in the Kstovo district, Governor Gleb Nikitin reported. Falling debris damaged two facilities belonging to Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez, triggering a fire. The Novogorkovsky thermal power plant was also damaged, as were several residential buildings and private plots, leaving some residents without electricity.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova published footage purportedly showing a fire at a refinery in the city of Kstovo.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 87 Ukrainian drones overnight over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Kursk, Oryol, Tambov, Kaluga, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Tver, and Leningrad regions, as well as Mordovia and Russian-occupied Crimea.
