Three Russian fighter jets violated Estonia’s airspace, the Estonian military’s General Staff said on Friday.
The incident reportedly occurred near the island of Vaindloo in the Gulf of Finland. The aircraft remained in Estonian airspace for 12 minutes. The General Staff noted that the jets had their transponders switched off and were flying without flight plans.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires in the country and handed him an official note of protest.
The Estonian public broadcaster ERR noted that the incident marks the fourth violation of Estonia’s airspace since the start of 2025.
On the night of September 10, around two dozen Russian drones entered Polish airspace. Polish and NATO fighter jets were scrambled to intercept them. Following that incident, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry, aimed at strengthening the borders of countries located near Russia.
