U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that he plans to hold another phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days, according to Reuters.
Trump also said that European leaders would soon be traveling to Washington for talks, though he did not specify who.
Asked about Russia’s large-scale strike on Ukraine, Trump said he was “not happy” with the continued fighting but stressed that he intends to bring it to an end.
On Saturday night, Russia launched its largest attack on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, deploying more than 800 drones and nearly 15 missiles. In Kyiv, residential buildings were damaged and a government building was struck. By the morning of September 8, officials reported three deaths in the capital, including a mother and her two-month-old baby.
The strikes have renewed discussions in Washington about additional sanctions against Russia.
