Switzerland will grant Vladimir Putin immunity if he travels to the country for peace talks on Ukraine, despite the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against him, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said on Tuesday.
Cassis explained that Switzerland introduced rules last year allowing immunity for individuals under international arrest warrants. “If this person comes for a peace conference — not if they come for private reasons,” he said.
After meeting on Monday with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and other European leaders, French President Emmanuel Macron suggested Switzerland as a possible venue for a Putin–Zelensky summit.
