Ukrainian military reports attack on ship carrying Iranian drone parts at Russian port
Ukrainian forces attacked the port of Olya in Russia’s Astrakhan region on Thursday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has reported, saying Moscow used the port to transport military supplies from Iran.
The strike reportedly targeted the ship Port Olya-4, which Kyiv says was carrying components for Shahed-type attack drones and ammunition from Iran. According to the Ukrainian military, the “results of the strike are still being assessed.”
Photos posted by the Ukrainian Telegram channels Exilenova+ and Supernova+ appear to show Olya-4 partially sunk after the attack. The vessel in the images matches earlier photos of Olya-4 shared on ship-tracking websites.
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, commented on the strike: “If you choose to transport components for weapons and drones that kill Ukrainians, you shouldn’t be surprised when that transport starts sinking.”
Igor Babushkin, governor of Russia’s Astrakhan region, confirmed that Ukraine targeted the port of Olya with drones on August 14. He said all of the drones were either shot down or jammed by electronic warfare systems. “The ship in the port was damaged by debris from a downed UAV,” he added.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the attack.
