Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders during a call that he will not discuss divisions of Ukrainian territory at his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, CNN and NBC News reported, citing multiple sources.

According to NBC News, Trump said his goal for the meeting is to secure a ceasefire. The U.S. president reportedly agreed with European leaders that it should be implemented before the start of peace talks.

Even so, some European heads of state came away from the call concluding that Trump is not particularly optimistic about the outcome of his talks with Putin, NBC News reported. A CNN source likewise said that “expectations for the meeting [with Putin] are not high.”

Zelensky and European leaders held the call with Trump ahead of his meeting with Putin in Alaska. Afterward, French President Emmanuel Macron said Trump had promised to discuss territorial issues only with Ukraine’s participation.
