Russian air defenses shot down two Ukrainian drones headed for Moscow on Friday morning, the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, said. He said emergency crews were dispatched to the site where debris from one of the drones fell, though he did not specify the location.
Between 8:00 p.m. local time on June 19 and 7:00 a.m. on June 20, Russian forces intercepted and destroyed 61 Ukrainian drones over several regions, according to the Defense Ministry. The ministry reported that 22 drones were downed over the Oryol region, 14 over Kursk, seven over Belgorod, five over Voronezh, and three each over the Volgograd, Rostov, Tula, and Bryansk regions. One drone was reported shot down in the Moscow region. However, the ministry’s statement came before Sobyanin announced the second drone over Moscow.
In the Belgorod region, two civilians were injured in a drone strike on the evening of June 19, according to the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov. As of Friday morning, Gladkov had not commented on any additional incidents overnight.
Officials in the Oryol, Voronezh, Rostov, Tula, and Bryansk regions reported no injuries or damage from the drone attacks. Authorities in the Kursk and Volgograd regions, as well as in Moscow and the surrounding area, have not provided any details on the effects of the strikes.
