Kremlin says Putin and Trump didn’t speak yesterday, attributes U.S. president’s claim to ‘figurative speech’

Responding to Donald Trump’s report today, June 18, that he spoke “yesterday” to Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that the U.S. president was “speaking figuratively.” “Life is so packed with events right now that looking back a few days feels like yesterday,” Peskov said, declining to comment on Trump’s claim that Putin offered to mediate between Iran and the United States in their escalating tensions.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump told reporters: “I spoke to [Putin] yesterday. He actually offered to help mediate [between Israel and Iran]. I said, ‘Do me a favor. Mediate your own. Let’s mediate Russia first.’” Trump added that “far more people” have been killed in the war in Ukraine than have been previously reported. “A building falls down, they say nobody was hurt,” he said. “Ridiculous.”
