On June 16, Ukraine received the remains of another 1,245 people, including military personnel, Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War announced.

“The repatriation portion of the Istanbul agreements has been completed,” the statement said. In total, Ukraine received the remains of 6,057 individuals under the process outlined in Istanbul, according to the headquarters.

Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation at the Istanbul negotiations, said that Moscow has transferred the remains of 6,060 Ukrainian officers and soldiers. As part of the exchange, Kyiv returned the bodies of 78 Russian servicemen, according to Medinsky.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said it is “currently prepared to transfer another 2,239 bodies of deceased Ukrainian servicemen to the Ukrainian side.”
