Trump considering lifting Biden-era restrictions on Ukraine’s military operations — Kyiv Post

U.S. President Donald Trump is “seriously considering” lifting all restrictions imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, on Ukraine’s military operations, the Kyiv Post reported on Tuesday, citing two Western officials.

The report does not specify which restrictions are under review, including whether they involve arms shipments or limits on strikes against Russian territory.

“All the previously imposed restrictions – whether already eased or not – are currently under the review as President [Trump] believes that the current status-quo does not serve our common interests of bringing Russia to the [negotiation] table,” one official told the outlet.

According to the source, Trump’s final decision on how to punish Russia and what the next phase of U.S. support for Ukraine will look like is expected to be discussed during meetings in Washington this week between U.S. and German officials. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is among those scheduled to visit.

On May 26, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Germany, the U.K., France, and the U.S. had lifted range restrictions on weapons supplied to Ukraine. The Kremlin has called the move “dangerous.”

Additionally, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Trump was also considering imposing sanctions on Russia as early as this week, possibly before June 1. The paper’s sources said Trump was growing increasingly frustrated by the slow pace of peace talks and by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s continued attacks on Ukraine.
