U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that he has a “red line” in negotiations with Russia and Ukraine, and that if it’s crossed, he will stop pushing Moscow and Kyiv towards peace, Sky News reports.
Speaking to reporters outside the Oval Office after his two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said that Russia and Ukraine have a “good chance” at peace, though he noted that there are “big egos involved.” He added, “This was a European situation, it should have remained a European situation.”
When asked about Putin specifically, Trump said he believes the Russian president wants to end the war. “My whole life is deals, one big deal, and if I thought that President Putin did not want to get this over with, I wouldn't even be talking about it because I'd just pull out,” he said.
