Zelensky says Ukraine captured two Chinese nationals fighting for Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Tuesday that Ukrainian forces have captured two Chinese nationals fighting for Russia against Ukraine.

Zelensky said the soldiers were apprehended in the Donetsk region and that Ukrainian forces also obtained their documents and bank cards. The soldiers are now in the custody of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).

The president also said that Ukrainian intelligence suggests many more Chinese citizens may be fighting in Russian military units.

“I’ve instructed Ukraine’s foreign minister to contact Beijing immediately and find out how China plans to respond. Russia’s involvement of China, either directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin is determined to do anything except end the war. He’s looking for ways to continue fighting,” Zelensky said.
