U.S. President Donald Trump’s inner circle has advised him not to call Vladimir Putin until the Russian president agrees to a full ceasefire in Ukraine, NBC News reported, citing two U.S. administration officials.

The sources told the outlet that while Trump could suddenly decide he wants to speak with Putin, those close to him believe that making the call before a ceasefire agreement is in place “isn’t a good idea.”

As of now, no talks between the U.S. and Russian presidents are scheduled, the officials said.

On March 30, Trump said he planned to speak with Putin that week, but no confirmation of such a conversation has emerged. Since returning to the White House, the two leaders have officially spoken by phone twice — on February 12 and March 18.
